After a long journey we arrived in Blantyre. I expected something bigger – more ‘international’ –than this! We passed through customs quickly and were met by Fr Owen. What followed was a 2 hour drive into the ‘real Africa.
We were taken to ‘Bessie’s ‘ Place which is to be our home for the next two weeks. It is comfortable and very impressive having been constructed with entirely human effort – no mechanical devices were used in the construction of this house! The whole compound is like an oasis.
At this time of the year Malawi is green and colourful with clear views of the surrounding hills.
This is my first time in Africa but I am looking forward to working with Mary, Bridget and Andy to identify ways in which we can help local communities improve their lives through health and education.
